What in the world is a Sober Coach? A Sober Coach is a professional that helps fill gaps that are left out   for a client after beginning recovery or leaving in-patient or out-patient treatment. Many times people struggle attending recovery meetings or doing activities alone. A sober coach can help facilitate meetings and activities and become a transitional support source for an individual working to make daily changes to their schedules and lifestyles.

Sober Coaching is used frequently after discharge or when an increased level of care is required.  It involves several primary functions and is useful for many populations. It has shown positive results through research data on the national level, in helping clients stay out of the hospital, long term rehab programs, and jail.  It provides day to day supervision, assessment, and clinical support for those who often have trouble with chronic relapse states.  This can be especially useful for those that need a higher level of care and more direction than what a simple one hour session of counseling can bring.

Sober coaching provides on-call linking and referral services that are often required by an at risk population.  Due to our long working history in San Diego, we have developed many referral sources and contacts that can be essential when dealing with the addicted client. We know all the best meetings and age appropriate ones as well. We also strive to have fun in recovery! Our coaches help recovering people learn this concept.

At Matthew Bruhin & Associates, our coaches are trained in the needs of those struggling with addiction. We use sober coaches as an adjunctive resource to therapy being conducted by therapists. All our coaches have completed or are finishing completing their hours towards a CAADAC certification as drug counselors. This unique opportunity can be hugely helpful to young people just learning how to live life sober, or to adult trying to turn over a new leaf. Sober coaching often provides a “connect the dots’ approach that helps keep people sober. If you feel someone you know could benefit from the one on one approach of Sober Coaching, please call Matthew Bruhin & Associates to schedule a meeting with a Sober Coach. It can make all the difference.

Dr. Bruhin has helped me sort out long-standing issues and figure out how to move forward in a healthier way. He’s professional but still completely approachable. I’d recommend him to anyone.
